A 43-year-old landscape contractor in New Jersey remained hospitalized after he was thrown from a backhoe, then run over by the machine, police said.
Rigoberto Martinez Castro of Eatontown, N.J., was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he was listed in serious condition this morning, according to police and a hospital spokesman.
He was operating a backhoe, moving dirt in a residential area when the machine began to buck, police said. He was propelled out of the machine, and then it ran him over, said Detective Lt. Joseph Capriotti.
