FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Before Sept. 11, 2001, Chris Mitchell had known fellow Foxborough resident Mike McGinty and his wife, Cindy, for only a short time. But he was devastated when he learned that Mike, the father of two boys in his Cub Scout pack, was killed in the World Trade Center attack.
“I didn’t know what to do, as a Scout leader, or as a human being,’’ he admits. “So I went over to see her and gave her a hug.’’
A few weeks later, Mitchell, who owns a lawn care company, decided to do what he knows best.
“I mowed,’’ he says.
And mowed. And mowed.
And for the next eight years, Mitchell or one of his crew showed up at Cindy McGinty’s home every week and cut the grass, or brought Scouts over to help with yard work and landscaping, knowing that Mike’s yard had been his pride.
Nearly nine years later, Mitchell hasn’t forgotten 9/11, and he’s doing his best to make sure no one else does, either.
