Rain Men Landscaping and Irrigation named as July's 2010 Landscaper's Challenge semi-finalist

Rain Men Landscaping and Irrigation has been named the July semi-finalist for the 2010 Landscaper’s Challenge, sponsored by New Holland Construction. The company completed an extensive landscaping project at Pine-Richland Upper Elementary School for aesthetic and practical purposes.

Synopsis: The landscaping project at Pin-Richland Upper Elementary School started April 3, 2008. Rain Men Landscaping and Irrigation used a New Holland LS 170, a Rockhound, a 36” auger, and forks to add 210 trees, 200 bushes, 15 acres of native wildflowers and grasses, one multipurpose athletic field, and six acres of grass area. Field grasses and wildflowers were planted on the grounds around the school to reduce storm water runoff, allowing more water to infiltrate into the ground to replenish the groundwater table. By adding wildflowers, gas emissions are reduced during maintenance by eliminating the need to mow those areas.

Three months of construction delays slowed the project, during which the company had to keep the trees watered with automatic sprinklers. Rain Men built temporary automatic irrigation systems and bought thousands of feet of hoses to water the lawn, creating a beautiful grass area despite seeding in July and August.
