The Pittsburgh City Council advanced a bill that would enable the elderly, disabled people and veterans to receive free lawn-mowing services, Trib Total Media reported.
Under the proposal, which the council advanced in December 2017, residents who are elderly, disabled or veterans would be eligible so long as no one in their home is capable of cutting grass. Pittsburgh City Councilwoman Theresa Kail-Smith of Westwood, Pennsylvania, said she sponsored a similar program in her West End district since 2009 by using Community Development Block Grant funding to hire contractors through competitive bidding. According to Trib Total Media, a similar process would be used to pay for the program in Pittsburgh, if it moves forward.
