Arrive at the 2016 Western early to join a special afternoon tour of green building projects on Jan. 20. See projects in Kansas City, Missouri, that are “pushing the boundaries” with sustainability while you connect with colleagues for a facilitated conversation on sustainability and its role in and impact on the horticulture industry.
The tour will be led by Jeffrey Bruce, owner of Jeffrey L. Bruce & Co. and author of the “Integrated Management for Buildings and Sites” seminar series for Green Roofs for Healthy Cities and American Society of Irrigation Consultants. Bruce and his company were involved in the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts and 909 Walnut projects.
The tour will visit:
- 909 Walnut: luxury apartments and condos reside in this restored art-deco office building in downtown Kansas City that also incorporates a green roof atop the adjoining eight-story parking garage to provide residents with green space.
- Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts: one of the most technically and architecturally advanced performing arts centers in the nation, there is also a green roof designed as a 2.63 acre high performing open space park. The green roof has the distinction of being the first and largest permitted green roof storm water detention facility in the State of Missouri.
