SEATTLE – The Northwest Flower & Garden Show, which features big and small gardens, nearly 120 seminars and a large line-up of exhibitors, will be held Feb. 8-12 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle.
This year’s theme is “A Floral Symphony…Gardens Take Note.” Garden Centers will weave musical elements into full-scale gardens. Adding to the melodic magic, the show’s South Lobby will be the scene of live performances presenting a wide range of musical genres including gospel, jazz and bluegrass.
The flower and garden show is supported by Subaru of America and Alaska Airlines – with both sponsors showcasing their own gardens – as well as Pendleton, Marenakos Rock Center, Sawdust Supply Company, the Seattle Times and King5.
Spanning six acres within the convention center, the show’s 25 display gardens are the result of creativity, horticultural expertise and roll-up-your-sleeves effort by scores of people. Accenting the work by garden creators are thousands of blooming flowers and exotic plants – the result of a pre-show forcing program developed by the show and Windmill Gardens of Sumner.
“The gardens are a crowd favorite for their beauty, but they also generate take-home ideas for gardeners of all abilities.” said Show Producer Terry O’Loughlin of Northwest-based O’Loughlin Trade Shows.
Garden creators will be on hand to meet those ready to take the next step in updating a garden or creating an entirely new environment. The Association of Professional Landscape Designers (WA Chapter) and the Association of Professional Landscape Designers will also offer complimentary 20-minute landscape design consultations at the show.
Seminar series
The show will have a large line-up of gardening luminaries to share the latest trends and how-to tips in nearly120 seminars. For both beginners and veteran gardeners, it’s a fun and information-packed line-up free with admission to the show.
New and returning stars of the gardening community speaking at the show include authors and television personalities such as Jamie Durie, Joe Lamp’l and television’s original celebrity chef, the former ‘Galloping Gourmet,’ Graham Kerr.
New products and plants
The hottest new tools, gifts for the gardener, hand-crafted art and furniture and new plant introductions will be offered in the “Marketplace.” This one-stop shopping experience attracts more than 300 exhibitors. Specialty nurseries will be introducing new and exotic plants – as well as old favorites – in the Plant Market.
