KENT, Ohio –As Davey Tree continues to grow, the company has announced a string of recent promotions within different departments.
Residential/commercial promotions
Tedd Bartlett – district manager, northeast Cleveland, Ohio
Scott Heim – district manager, Akron, Ohio
Evan Shorr – district manager, north Chicago, Illinois

Safety department promotions
Mike Horneber – senior regional safety specialist, Midwest

In their new and important roles, they’ll continue to make Davey an even safer working environment,” said Johnny Wilson, Davey Tree’s manager of field safety support.
Commercial landscape services promotions
Thomas Currier – Regional manager for government projects, West
Daniel Morgan – Regional manager of government projects, East
Kevin Sharkey – Regional manager of government projects, Pacific
“With nearly 50 years of combined experience in the green industry, these individuals are a wealth of knowledge. Their past experience in government projects and commercial landscape will set them and their clients up for success,” said Dan Joy, executive vice president and general manager of the Commercial Landscape Services division.
The company also announced three upper-management positions that current employees have been promoted into.
Kevin Peters has been promoted to vice president, U.S. Residential/Commercial services, Western operating group. Peters will oversee R/C services in several Western states, including California, Nevada, Washington and Oregon.
He has more than 27 years of experience in the field of arboriculture, including with The Care of Trees, a Davey company, where he served both as a district manager and regional manager. In 2010, he was promoted to operations manager for Davey’s western operating group R/C services.
“Kevin is committed to the Davey Company and its clients, and he always works to ensure people and safety come first. This dedication ensures Davey customers continue to receive the absolute highest level of tree service,” said Stief.
Peters is an International Society of Arboriculture Board Certified Master Arborist®, the highest level of certification offered. He also served as a past member of the Davey President’s Council, where he brainstormed and researched new ideas related to the company’s operations.
In addition, Peters obtained a Tree Risk Assessment Qualification from ISA and is a member of the organization’s Western and New England chapter.
Terry Bier has been promoted to the position of regional vice president of The Davey Tree Surgery Company, a subsidiary of Davey Tree. He will oversee the utility operations for Hawaii and the southwestern region of Davey Tree, with locations in Arizona, California and Nevada.
Bier started with Davey in 1989 and has held a variety of positions both in the field and administrative offices. Most recently, Bier served as operations manager for the southwestern region.
“Terry has embraced the growth we are experiencing in the southwest while maintaining his commitment to the clients, safety and the Davey Company as a whole,” said Larry Abernathy, vice president and general manager, Davey Tree Surgery Company. “Terry’s willingness to accept new roles and responsibilities, and his strong relationships with both clients and employees, will further establish the Davey brand across the region.”
Bier, who has more than 25 years of experience in the green industry, is an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist and an ISA Certified Arborist Utility Specialist. He is a recipient of a Best of Davey Leadership Award and a past member of the Davey President’s Council, whose members serve a three-year term on various committees to brainstorm and research new ideas related to the company’s operations. Bier holds a bachelor’s degree in science and mathematics from North Dakota State University. Bier is also a certified pesticide applicator in both California and Nevada.
Tedd Bartlett has been promoted to district manager of the Northeast Cleveland, Ohio, residential/commercial office.
Bartlett’s career at Davey began in 2002, shortly after his graduation from Allegheny College. His associate degree in forestry helped him succeed as a plant health care technician. Four years later, Bartlett was promoted to a sales arborist.
“Tedd sets ambitious goals for himself – and puts in the hours, hard work and dedication to achieve them. As the new district manager, Tedd’s work ethic, friendly demeanor and commitment to customer care will serve him and his Northeast Cleveland clients well,” said Jeff Crites, Davey market manager of residential/commercial services.
Bartlett is also an International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist®, who graduated from the Davey’s Institute of Horticulture Sciences in 2004.
