ALCC announces 2014 awards

The association has announced the recipients of its Volunteer Service awards.

DENVER, Colo. – The Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado (ALCC) has announced the recipients of its 2014 Volunteer Service Awards. This year, four outstanding volunteers of ALCC are recognized for their contributions to the state’s landscape industry.

Award recipients are:
•  Bob Cannon Lifetime Achievement Award: Glen Ellison, Ceres Landcare, Eagle
This award honors loyal, dedicated service to the landscape industry. It celebrates an individual who contributes ideas, programs and efforts that benefit ALCC members and the professional image of the landscape industry.

A main founder of ALCC’s Mountain Chapter in the 1990s, Ellison spent many years helping lead that group. He has participated and judged in the association’s Excellence in Landscape Awards program, volunteered on the scholarship committee for 16 years and devoted much of his time to represent the industry in a variety of non-industry circles.

•  John Garvey Person of the Year: Eric Moroski, Weisburg Landscape Maintenance, Colorado Springs
The Person of the Year is an individual who has provided outstanding volunteer service during the past year. The Garvey recipient is someone who always steps up to the plate to help the industry, regardless of the amount of responsibility and effort involved.

Moroski worked tirelessly on behalf of the Southern Chapter in 2013 on water issues to foster harmony among the industry, water providers and city council.  “His thoughtful suggestions and a work-together attitude have been an asset for our industry in these discussions,” says Kristen Fefes, executive director, ALCC. “Throughout his career, Moroski has been an advocate of conscientious resource management, with water being paramount given the ongoing threat of drought for our state.”

•  Outlook Emerging Leader Award: Levi Heidrich, Colorado Tree Farm Nursery, Colorado Springs
The Outlook Award recognizes a young professional less than 40 years old who demonstrates great potential and a commitment to improving the landscape industry.

Heidrich has been an active volunteer for several years in the ALCC Southern Chapter and worked on its behalf on water issues at meetings with the utilities and city. He is a standout supporter of the industry as a whole, involved with his customers and realizes a more professional industry is the key to ongoing success.

•  Stanley Brown Supplier Member Distinguished Service Award: Joe Domanik, Bobcat of the Rockies, Windsor
The Brown Distinguished Service Award recognizes a supplier for outstanding commitment to ALCC and to the industry.

Always an industry advocate, Domanik is active in Northern Chapter ALCC leadership and takes a strong role in the chapter’s annual Day of Service projects where the chapter takes on a day-long landscape installation or renovation. As a supplier, he promotes industry professionalism as the key to better customers and happier consumers.
