The American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC) chose several recipients for awards. All awards will be presented March 6 at the ASIC National Conference in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The following people received awards:
- Brent Mecham earned the Roy Williams Memorial Award
- Ann Runley Carroll earned the Ivy Munion Langendorff Women in Irrigation Award
- Steve Hohl earned the Sam Tobey Lifetime Achievement Award
The Roy Williams Memorial Award is given to a person or organization who has shown outstanding achievement or made significant contribution to the irrigation industry. Mecham has left an imprint on the irrigation industry in numerous ways. He currently serves as industry development director for the Irrigation Association, which puts him on the front lines in the development of standards and codes that affect irrigation products and practices. Mecham has been a regular presenter at ASIC National Conferences, sharing information with irrigation design professionals from across the country about upcoming industry codes and standards and future trends.
The Ivy Munion Langendorff Women in Irrigation Award is given to women who positively impacted the irrigation industry. Carroll worked as a specification manager for Rain Bird, providing technical support to irrigation specifiers in 1979. By 1987, she joined the ranks of irrigation consulting and accepted a position at Russ Mitchell Associates, and a year later she formed her own irrigation consulting firm. She has served as a mentor to many other industry consultants in California, providing insight to industry newcomers.
The Sam Tobey Lifetime Achievement Award is given to a person whose long-term support of the society's principles and whose efforts to promote the goals of the society are deserving of special recognition by his or her peers. Hohl is the principal and owner of Water Concern LLC, which was established in 2000. Hohl has the quality of finding consensus in a group and of finding the right words to distill a wandering discussion. He has served on ASIC's board of directors since 2002 and been an officer for 10 years. In addition, he is involved in countless committees including membership, certification and annual conference planning.
