The gunman who opened fire on at the Kansas factory where he worked, killing three people and wounding 14 others before he was shot dead, was served a court order 90 minutes before the incident, Harvey County Sheriff T. Walton said Friday.
The suspect was served the order to protect another individual from abuse about 3:30 p.m. Thursday and that action was likely what triggered the attack, Walton said, according to ksn.com.
Walton declined to describe the order, but said they are typically served "because there's some type of violence in a relationship," according to ksn.com.
The dead were shot inside Excel Industries, a plant in Hesston that makes lawn mower products, Walton said. The shooter was an employee of Excel, whom several workers identified as Cedric Ford, 38.
After the shooting, six of the wounded were transported to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in Wichita, with two in critical condition and four in stable condition on Thursday, Walton said. Only one victim remained in critical condition Friday morning, according to the Wichita Eagle newspaper.
Four of the wounded were taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, three in critical condition and one in stable condition, Walton said. An updated condition wasn't available Friday morning, according to the Wichita Eagle.
And four of the wounded were taken to Newton Medical Center in stable condition, Walton said.
