The Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals graduated a group of certified outdoor lighting designers and certified low voltage lighting technicians at its 2011 Annual Conference & Expo held in Scottsdale, Ariz.
There are no defined national standards for low voltage outdoor lighting. To ensure quality and safety of the service, AOLP created a standardized certification test to address the lack of standards. The CLVLT exam measures the knowledge and capabilities of the applicants and is specifically for 12-volt systems. The test consists of a written exam and seven half-hour labs.

The second group of graduates received certification as outdoor lighting designers. AOLP is currently the only certification program of its kind in the industry. Participants spend four years in the program developing their lighting expertise and building on a series of fundamental principles that are universally acknowledged to form the basis of good and responsible lighting design.
