After learning the ins and outs of horticulture from a class at his high school, Michael Mioduski is contemplating a job in the landscaping industry.
Mioduski is a student in Greeley West High School's landscape Career Pathways Program, which aims to get more youngsters into the green workforce. He's not 100 percent sure whether landscaping will be his end-all, be-all career – what 16 year old knows that? – but he knows it's an industry he'll keep in mind.
"A lot of people think the world is dark and has no light to it, but flowers, trees and vegetables can help them get away from that for a little while," Mioduski said. "That's why (landscaping) is important."
Career Pathways is a collaboration between the Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado and the Colorado Community College System to expose high school students to career opportunities in the landscaping industry, and prepare them for a job in it post-graduation.
