The ServiceMaster Co. is getting a little bit greener by introducing its first hybrid vehicles.
The Memphis-based company put the fleet of 10 TruGreen hybrid vehicles into service in California two weeks ago.
TruGreen expects the hybrid vehicles will improve fuel economy by up to 40 percent, reduce maintenance costs by 30 percent and provide up to 30 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
In measured terms, one truck improving fuel economy by 35 percent would save 47 gallons of fuel per month or 564 gallons per year. A single hybrid truck would reduce carbon emissions by 5 metric tons annually.
