Calls to action for H-2B legislation

Landscape professionals are lobbying Congress to extend the returning worker exemption for 2017.

Tomorrow more than 100 landscape professionals and other seasonal employers will be in DC to lobby Congress on the need to extend the returning worker exemption for 2017. The primary opportunity for getting the returning worker exemption reenacted and saving the H-2B program for this season is by inclusion of the language in the spending bill Congress votes on this week. Congress needs to hear a steady drum beat from H-2B users across the country in order to reinstate the returning worker exemption through a year-end spending bill.

Call to action #1
Use the NALP Member Advocacy Center to contact both of your senators' offices and ask him/her to sign on to Senator Flake’s (R-AZ) letter to leadership in support of the returning worker exemption being included in the appropriations measure for the remainder of fiscal year 2017. The letter will be sent mid-week so they must sign on either today or tomorrow.

Call to action #2
Contact your member of Congress through the NALP Member Advocacy Center and ask the member to please personally contact Speaker Ryan’s office and other House leadership and ask for the inclusion of language to extend the H-2B returning worker exemption in any appropriation measure to fund the balance of FY 2017.

Unless you live in his district, do not contact Speaker Ryan's office yourself.

Even if you have already made multiple contacts with your member of Congress and your Senators, email and tweet again today, tomorrow, and every day until April 28. Contact Paul Mendelsohn with NALP if you have any questions.
