FALLS CHURCH, Va. – The Irrigation Association and the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers have officially partnered to work together on standards development. A formal memorandum of understanding between the two organizations was signed at IA’s recent Legislative Conference in Washington.
“Our two organizations have already cooperated for many years on developing irrigation standards that have been adopted at the national and international levels,” said IA President Mark Huntley. “But this agreement formalizes the relationship, fostering an exchange of knowledge and expertise as we develop new standards, codes and practices for both agricultural and landscape irrigation. In 2010, IA created a new strategic focus on standards, and ASABE’s partnership will help us advance those strategic goals.”
ASABE President Ron McAllister further explained that “ASABE and IA have a long history of cooperation that goes back more than 50 years. Signing of this MOU solidifies our expectations of continued collaboration on common interests such as irrigation, drainage, and efficient water use. ASABE is particularly excited about the opportunity to work with IA to develop standards of common interest in agriculture and landscaping. We are very happy to be part of this MOU and look forward to working with the Irrigation Association.”
