HERNDON, Va. – The National Association of Landscape Professionals recently announced Jeremy Thorne as the recipient of the inaugural Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. The award was presented March 15 during the annual National Collegiate Landscape Competition (formerly Student Career Days), hosted by North Carolina State University.
The award is designed to recognize an entrepreneur age 30 or under who has demonstrated spirit and initiative, and serves as an example to students pursuing a landscape industry career.
Thorne graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Technology in 2013 with two degrees in Landscape/Horticulture Technology. Prior to college, he owned and operated a lawn care company, and worked as an operations manager and a landscape installation foreman for two different landscape companies. He has many years of experience where he gained knowledge of underground infrastructure as a heavy equipment operator.
Thorne is a certified pesticide applicator and an active member of the National Association of Landscape Professionals.
Since 2011, Thorne has been a volunteer within NALP, serving as a Green Industry Conference Student Ambassador and volunteering with the National Collegiate Landscape Competition and Renewal & Remembrance.
In the spring of 2015, he will open ThorneCare Landscape Solutions – which will focus on landscape enhancements.
“With all of my experience in landscaping and infrastructure, a college degree and work ethic, I feel there is no better time than now to continue my dream of owning and operating a successful landscape company,” Thorne said.
Nominations for the 2016 Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award will be accepted beginning in May. For more information on this award, as well as other National Association of Landscape Professionals awards, visit www.landscapeprofessionals.org.
