ASIC is sad to announce that Ivy Munion, ASIC’s past president, and good friend to many in the ASIC family, passed away on May 23. Ivy had been fighting cancer with her characteristic grit, determination and positive outlook for the last several years, but ultimately lost the battle.
Anyone who ever met Ivy remembers her. She was one-of-a-kind with her unbridled passion for life in general, for her loving family, for her profession and for ASIC. She was truly a unique individual and will not be forgotten by those who were touched and impacted by her unabashed rambunctious nature and infectious optimism.
ASIC will always be grateful for her contributions to the industry as an untiring advocate for responsible water use in the landscape and for her profession. She was a trail blazer, starting in the industry in 1989 as a draftsperson. As a self-professed irrigation geek, she spent a lifetime of learning and giving back to her profession, and was the co-owner, then sole owner of ISC Group, a consulting firm in Livermore, California. She was the first female president of ASIC – a role that brought her great satisfaction even while fighting her illness. Ivy was responding to e-mails and texts from the ICU as recently as last week – although those that knew her would not find that surprising.
Ivy has left an indelible mark on the industry and on all that were lucky enough to have known her. She will be missed.
We will update everyone on the funeral arrangements as we know more.
