SOLitude Lake Management announces charity milestone

The team surpassed 10,000 volunteer hours since its outreach program began in 2012.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., – SOLitude Lake Management announced recent milestones achieved through the company’s community outreach program, The SOLution. This past month, SOLitude’s team surpassed 10,000 volunteering hours in our local communities since the program’s inception in 2012.

The SOLution is a company-wide program that encourages staff volunteerism, activism and education in local communities. As part of the program, SOLitude supports volunteering during company hours and provides rewards, company-wide recognition and donations to the charities of each participating employee’s choice. The team is able to increase their impact and rewards by donating time to water-related causes and inspiring friends, family, vendors and clients to join in their efforts.

Since the program began in 2012, SOLitude has donated more than $286,604 in goods and in-kind services to our local communities across the country. In 2017, the SOLitude team helped support more than 11,000 families across the country through an array of charitable events, educational opportunities and fundraisers including:

• Lake, River and Creek Clean Ups

• Native Vegetation and Tree Plantings

• Rain Garden and Oyster Reef Castle Installations

• Invasive Species Removals

• Fishing Tournaments and Outdoor Kids’ Events

• Hurricane Relief Efforts

• Habitat for Humanity Builds

• Foodbank Backpack Programs

• Dog and Cat Adoption Events

• Blood Drives

In particular, several recent events allowed SOLitude to achieve the 10,000 hour milestone. In April, team members helped coordinate and lead 20 volunteering initiatives across the country to celebrate Earth Day. In total, the SOLitude team tallied 310 volunteering hours and collected more than 9,500 pounds of trash from roads, neighborhoods and local waterways.

SOLitude hosts several other community-focused efforts throughout the year:

Love Your Lake: SOLitude helps restore ecological balance to lakes or ponds that play a pivotal role in a non-profit foundation’s mission—particularly those focused on veterans, disadvantaged children and disabled individuals.

Little Gobblers: SOLitude donates turkeys and grocery store gift cards to local elementary and middle schools to help selected under-resourced families have a healthy and happy meal on Thanksgiving.

Holiday Cheer: For every new social media follower during the month of December, SOLitude donates $10 worth of toys and gifts to sick children who are spending the holidays in the hospital. The SOLitude team also “adopts” families in dire need. The selected families are provided gift cards and items from their wish lists to help ensure they have a joyful holiday season.

“SOLitude Lake Management has been a great volunteer partner and we look forward to working together more in the future,” said Kris Unger, primary conservator for Friends of Accotink Creek. “Their volunteers are wilderness champions.”
