Driver caught with $45,000 in stolen equipment

Police say they found 115 pieces of commercial-grade lawn and landscaping equipment in his van.

Irvine police arrested the driver of a van hauling more than $45,000 in stolen landscaping equipment, but his passenger ran away and was not found.

In the early morning hours of May 17, a police officer spotted a “suspicious” van leaving a dirt road for Irvine Boulevard, the Irvine Police Department said in a news release Wednesday.

The officer pulled the silver-colored van over, and as the driver pulled to the curb, both he and his passenger got out and ran. The officer chased and arrested the driver, 36-year-old Francisco Acosta, but his passenger continued fleeing.
