Almstead celebrates Arbor Day with tree plantings, events

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Almstead Tree, Shrub & Lawn Care continued its tradition of celebrating Arbor Day by participating in several events in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut during April and May.

They included tree plantings, talks by arborists at local schools, kids tree climbing stations and information booths at several Arbor Day festivals and events. Almstead arborists also handed out thousands of Eastern Redbud, Norway Spruce, Red Pine and High Bush Cranberry saplings this year.  

“Our goal is to reach families in our communities, especially children, and share our knowledge and love of arboriculture,” said CEO Ken Almstead. “Once again, arborists from each of our branch offices were able to participate in relevant events in their service regions.”

Almstead arborists and crews planted trees, talked to students, and gave away saplings at Matthew Paterson Elementary School (Carmel, N.Y.), Transfiguration School (Tarrytown, N.Y.), Jefferson Elementary School (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Mohawk Country Day School (White Plains, N.Y.), Wolfpit Elementary School (Norwalk, Conn.), Salem Drive School (Whippany, N.J.) and William Patterson University (Wayne, N.J.). Almstead also set up junior arborist stations, sapling giveaways and information booths at local public events including the Earth Day Fair (Ridgewood, N.J.), Arbor Day at Wave Hill (Bronx, N.Y.), and Down On The Farm at Darien Nature Center (Darien, Conn.).

The tradition of celebrating Arbor Day as an annual event was started by the company’s founder Richard Almstead over 50 years ago. In 2017, The New York State Arborists International Society of Arboriculture Chapter presented the Harry J. Banker Gold Leaf Award to Almstead in recognition of its outstanding Arbor Day activities.
