New guide eases conifer selection process

Landscapers confused about conifers now have a new resource to guide them in picking the right plant.

In his new book, “Timber Press Pocket Guide to Confers,” author Richard Bitner explains how to pick the right conifer for the home or garden. Bitner focuses on problem-free, drought-resistant and low-maintenance choices. He describes each plant’s preferred growing conditions and susceptibility to pests and diseases.

The guide includes an alphabetical listing of conifer species; a section on how to garden conifers for specific purposes and locations; and a resources section with contact information for 23 national and international nurseries.
