MARLBOROUGH, Conn. – The Connecticut Irrigation Contractors Association is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2011 Anderson/Hopkins Memorial CICA Scholarship. This year’s recipients are Elizabeth LaMay of Bethany, John-Scott Sommavilla, Jr. of Valhalla, N.Y., Abigail Stein and Amanda Stein of Fairfield, and Alysia Marie Collandrea of Guilford.
The scholarship was founded in 2008 in memory of two dedicated members of CICA.
Joseph Hopkins was a member since the CICA’s inception. Hopkins was a store branch manager for Atlantic Irrigation Specialties. He served several years on the board of directors in the early going, helping to shape the future of the association. Hopkins was also the membership chair for many years. He did an excellent job in recruiting new members and also on retaining existing members. He will be greatly missed.
Jesse Anderson, Jr. was one of the co-founders of the CICA. Anderson was also the founder and president of Anderson Turf Irrigation. He was the second president of CICA from 1990-1991 and also co-president from 2004-2007. Anderson served on and chaired many committees during his 20 years involvement in the CICA. His sense of humor and smile will be remembered by all members fortunate enough to have known Jesse.
The scholarships will be awarded on Sunday, July 31 at the CICA Family Day at Lake Compounce, in Bristol, Conn.
