Fortune magazine has ranked Jain Irrigation No. 7 on its first-ever list of companies that have made serious progress addressing the world’s biggest social and environmental problems as a core part of their corporate strategy.
The Change the World list includes companies like Vodafone and Safaricom at No. 1 and Google at No. 2.
Jain was recognized for its work to improve the livelihoods of 5 million small farmers in India by selling micro-irrigation systems. The company began selling the systems in 1986 and continues to boost crops and incomes by introducing more viable crop varieties and training farmers on more productive growing techniques. It has also branched out into solar water pumps.
