Coventry, R.I. — SeaScape Lawn Care partnered with Apprenticeship RI and the Rhode Island Nursery and Landscape Association to pilot a landscape technician apprenticeship program. SeaScape is currently seeking four to five candidates to begin the program starting in September 2017.
The apprenticeship model provides one year of paid, on-the-job and classroom training combined with classroom instruction. The goal of the pilot program is to offer young people the opportunity to build a career in the landscape industry.
“We have always prided ourselves on the level of training provided to our employees,” said Jim Wilkinson, president of SeaScape. “Lawn care technicians especially require a broad background in lawn and weeds, insects and diseases, grass species, application techniques, and safety procedures. Our current training programs have formed the basis for an effective apprenticeship program.”
Apprenticeship programs such as this one offered by SeaScape allow experienced workers to pass their knowledge to the next generation. SeaScape hopes that its participation in the program will demonstrate its level of commitment to training, and that it might encourage potential employees to gain the knowledge necessary to become industry professionals.
Those interested in participating in the apprenticeship program should contact Catherine Giusti at 401-821-7300 or forward a resume to catherine@seascapeinc.necoxmail.com.
