Saturday, Aug. 29 was a whirlwind of activity at PAWSibilities, Humane Society of Greater Akron. George Hohman, owner of Turfscape, was there bright and early with a brigade of volunteers and extensive equipment – all to make the dog enrichment yard better for the many dogs that call PHSGA home. The crew of 32 volunteers donated over 200 hours of their time for a dog enrichment area total make over. They planted grass seed, improved drainage, planted trees and shrubs, laid mulch, laid crushed limestone in our dog runs and more.
"The yard is such an important part in the lives of the hundreds of dogs we rescue each year," said President/CEO Diane Johnson. "They come to us sick, injured, neglected and abused, and many have never experienced a walk with someone who cares for them. The enrichment yard and off-leash dog runs allow them to be happy, active and healthy. Staff, volunteers and shelter dogs have faced challenges in the past with unfavorable conditions caused by weather and other factors in our enrichment area. This project will help ensure that our dogs, staff and volunteers will be able to enjoy this area year round. We simply cannot thank Turfscape Inc enough for so generously donating their time and talent to make this dream a reality for PHSGA."
Turfscape’s hard work wasn’t limited to just the Dog Enrichment Area. They beautified the front of the building with mulch, shrubs and plants. The team also skillfully laid a Memorial Brick collection which pays tribute to lost loved ones –both furry and human.
