TOPEKA, Kan. — Employees of Custom Tree Care in Topeka traveled to Florida to help with the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, according to WIBW TV in Topeka, Kansas.
About 20 employees from the company took heavy equipment to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to help clear roads, remove debris and trim and remove trees.
The tree care company helps to serve both residential and commercial clients. The company also features a disaster response division that was developed in 2005 to respond to hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, ice storms, wind storms and snowstorms.
Greg Gathers, owner of Custom Tree Care, said he introduced the disaster response division at his company after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005.
“I’ve always had a strong personal interest in severe weather (events),” Gathers said. “It was a natural fit for us to go down after Katrina and help out. There was so much work down there, and it opened my eyes to a completely different side of the business versus what I knew up until that point, which was the residential side.”
