LAYTONSVILLE, Md. – Veterans and residents of Washington, D.C.’s historic Armed Forces Retirement Home (AFRH) now have newly landscaped lawns and shady recreation spots to enjoy. More than 500 Ruppert employees participated in the company’s annual Field Day, a community service event that combines charitable giving, employee training and friendly competition. To complete the project, Ruppert Landscape donated more than $150,000 worth of materials including trees, shrubs, perennials, pavers and grass to transform the community gathering sites. AFRH, located at 140 Rock Creek Church Road, NW Washington, DC is home to approximately 500 residents who are veterans of WWII, Korea, Vietnam and other conflicts around the world.
“It was important for us to pick a site that had a big landscape need so we could donate the solution," said Craig Ruppert, chief executive officer of Ruppert Landscape. Ruppert added, "AFRH met our criteria. With 450 veteran residents of all military branches who have so bravely given their lives to protect us, it was our honor to give back to them. We are happy to be using our landscaping skills to benefit such a deserving community.”
Since 1993, Ruppert Landscape has transformed the grounds of 26 DC Public Schools, Inman Field in Atlanta and Carroll Park in Baltimore.
“AFRH-Washington is fortunate to have been selected for Ruppert Landscape’s 2015 Field Day," said Steven McManus, chief operating officer of Armed Forces Retirement Home. "Ruppert’s generous donation will truly honor and benefit the Veteran Residents of the Home by improving the outdoor spaces for our residents and their families to enjoy."
