KENT, Ohio – The Davey Tree Expert Company, along with the Southern Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and the USDA Forest Service, launched the Shigo Collection Learning Resource Center website. The website can be viewed here.
The website creates a platform for people to view a portion of Dr. Alex Shigo’s collection, which was curated by the early efforts of Dr. Jim McGraw, and learn about his legacy. The website features 3-D renditions of Dr. Shigo’s wood collection and dozens of his publications and research papers.
“This partnership is dedicated to the preservation of monumental contributions to Dr. Shigo made to modern arboriculture,” said Greg Ina, executive vice president of The Davey Institute and employee development. “This website creates the opportunity for students of arboriculture everywhere to interact with the rich history and knowledge of the Shigo Collection.”
In addition to making this collection available online, Davey will also integrate the content into the curriculum of the Davey Institute of Tree Sciences, Davey’s training program in biological sciences, safety, tree and plant care and management techniques. As part of the partnership, Davey is also providing financial support to the Southern Chapter Memorial Scholarship.
