EAST LANSING, Mich. – The American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC) has reached its goal of raising $25,000 to create an annual $1,000 memorial scholarship in honor of ASIC’s past president, Ivy Munion. ASIC has partnered with the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) Foundation as an Association Ambassador to administer and implement the newly created Ivy Munion Langendorff Irrigation Scholarship. The first scholarship award will be presented by an ASIC representative at the 2017 NALP National Collegiate Landscape Competition (NCLC) in March in Provo, Utah to a student that has demonstrated a strong interest in a career in the irrigation industry.
The impetus for the creation of an annual memorial scholarship was grass roots and member-driven. The initial effort created a groundswell of support from ASIC members, regional chapters and industry friends. The $25,000 goal was met in less than two months.
ASIC chose to partner with the Foundation in recognition of the shared goal of attracting talented young professionals to the irrigation industry and the success of the Foundation’s current scholarship program. In addition to becoming an NALP Ambassador, ASIC has been an active participant as lead sponsor for the Irrigation Design Workshop and Competitive Exam at the NALP NCLC. This event brings hundreds of students from across the country to learn and compete in different facets of the landscape industry.
There was overwhelming support to create and fund an irrigation scholarship as a fitting and lasting tribute to Ivy Munion. As a self-professed irrigation geek, Munion took every opportunity to share her passion and knowledge with others. She generously mentored and encouraged young people wanting to pursue irrigation as their professional path. Munion was also passionate about the role of a professional irrigation consultant in promoting efficient and sustainable irrigation solutions.
Applications for the scholarship are due by Friday, Nov. 11. Interested students can click here to learn more and fill out an application.
