Folsom Lake in California sank to its lowest level in history on Saturday, breaking the record set during the 1977 drought.
The reservoir sat at 140,600 acre-feet, which is only 14 percent of capacity, according to the California Department of Water Resources.
Lake Folsom supplies drinking water to about 200,000 residents, so the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation built a series of temporary pumps to pull more water out if necessary. However, officials don’t believe that’s going to be necessary, but they do expect the levels to drop further, according to the Sacramento Bee.
