Attendees of the Empire State Green Industry Show can take courses to become eligible for DEC’s organic lawn care professional license.
A team from Cornell University will teach Cornell’s Organic Lawn Care, a four-part session that is part of the Be Green Organic Yards NY initiative by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. Trained lawn care companies who complete the course exam can then apply for a DEC license agreement to use the Be Green logo.
The courses are for those interested in applying for the license and those wanting to learn more about organic management. The topics covered include:
- Information on how to obtain the Be Green service mark logo
- The keys to successful plantings and maintenance
- Alternative weed management practices
- Organic insect management
- How to minimize lawn diseases
- Resource information on maintaining organic lawns
The courses will take place Tuesday, January 11, 2011. The exam is scheduled from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
