By nurturing relationships and focusing on financials, Bill Dysert is beating the odds and driving consistent growth at Exscape Designs.
Plenty of guys have grabbed a truck and a commercial lawn mower thinking they’ll make some extra cash or replace a lost job in another field. Bill Dysert calls them fly-by-nighters.
But Dysert says he bleeds green.
“It takes a lot of grit to succeed in landscaping – you have to love it,” says the president of Exscape Designs in Chesterland, a design-build landscape firm with $2.1 million in revenue last year. Exscape expects to reach $2.75 million in 2014.
Since its founding 10 years ago, Dysert’s firm has been about more than just mow-and-blow. Exscape serves as a general contractor for everything outdoors. If you can dream it in your backyard, Dysert and his team of 15 can do it.
“You absolutely have to love working with your hands, with nature,” Dysert says. “Because it’s hard work.”
