KENT, Ohio – The Davey Tree Expert Company has announced the promotion of Don Roppolo to manager of arboricultural training.
Roppolo, who has 18 years of experience in arboricultural research and education, started his career in 1998 as a research technician in the Morton Arboretum. He joined The Care of Trees in 2002.
“Within the green industry, Don has held numerous leadership positions with various professional affiliates and has developed curriculum for several arboriculture programs,” said Greg Ina, vice president and general manager of research, recruiting and human resource development. “Don’s technical expertise, deep commitment to safety and thoughtful approach to problem solving for other arborists makes him an ideal choice to lead Davey’s arboriculture training programs.”
Roppolo has authored curriculum for arboriculture programs at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Mid-State Technical College in central Wisconsin and Joliet Junior College in Illinois.
Roppolo joined Davey in 2008 as a regional trainer as part of the acquisition of The Care of Trees by the Davey Company. Since the merger, he has served as a recruiter/trainer and as an instructor for the Davey Institute of Tree Sciences, which is Davey’s flagship training program in biological sciences, safety, tree and plant care and management techniques.
He is an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist, ISA Certified Tree Worker Aerial Lift Specialist, ISA Certified Tree Worker Climber Specialist, and a Tree Care Industry Association Certified Treecare Safety Professional. He is a past president of the Illinois Arborist Association and incoming president of the Society of Commercial Arboriculture. Roppolo holds a master’s degree in urban forestry from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
