California turf rebate program receives $350 million

California's water rebate program received $350 million from the Metropolitan Water District Tuesday, but the funding won't last unti lthe end of the year, according to Jeffrey Kightlinger, the district's general manager.

The program reimburses residents water-saving efforts like turf removal and originally had a budget of $100 million. The funding increase is estimated to cover pre-approved reimbursements and some new applications, but at a rate of 2,500 to 3,000 applications a week, officials have moved to cap the rebates.

Residential properties now limited to a one-time maximum of $6,000 and commcerical propperties will have an annual limit of $25,000.
