Caterpillar equipment apparently wasn't be seen on the ABC "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" television show when it filmed in the Peoria, Ill., area last week because the company would have had to cover up all Cat logos or have them blurred on television.
It seems Big Yellow was muscled out on its home turf for a position on the reality show by Connecticut-based United Rentals, which has a contract with ABC.
"My understanding is (Caterpillar) can't be on the show," Melanie Spurgeon, owner of Peoria-based Design Built Homes, said before the filming. "They will not be on the show."
Spurgeon's company was selected by producers to be the lead builder for the project and has been searching for volunteers and companies to help with the effort, which requires heavy equipment for demolition and construction.
Caterpillar seemed a natural fit, especially because Peoria serves as the headquarters for the company.
"This is Caterpillar country," Spurgeon said.
