Makita debuts 40V max XGT Brushless 20-inch chain saw

The GCU08 is Makita’s most powerful cordless chainsaw.

Makita has released the 40V max XGT Brushless 20-inch chain saw (GCU08).

It delivers the power of a 50cc gas rear handle chain saw designed with high chain speed (5,700 FPM). It features Extreme Protection Technology (XPT) & IPX4M rating, engineered for use in rainy conditions.

“The GCU08 is Makita’s most powerful cordless chainsaw and our first to deliver true 50cc-class performance with a 20-inch bar," says Stevan Garcia, senior product manager, outdoor power equipment at Makita. “It expands what professionals can expect from battery-powered cutting tools.”

The 20-inch chain saw features tactile controls with a 3-mode button that allows the user to adjust the chain speed. It also eliminates pull starts by having an easily accessible on/off power button. It also features a display panel with 6 LED indicators that allows for instant tool status check and chain speed monitoring.

The GCU08 features a variable trigger and three chain speeds (3,937/ 4,823/ 5,700 FPM) for improved speed control and cutting performance. Included with the GCU08 is a 20-inch sprocket nose guide bar and .325-inch low profile pitch, .050-inch gauge chain. The 20-inch chain saw features an inertia-activated chain brake that stops the rotation of the chain.

The GCU08 features a lock-off lever that improves handling, and a 5-minute auto power-off helps prevent accidental activation while conserving battery life. The GCU08 can utilize the XGT High Power 8.0Ah Battery (BL4080H).

Convenience features include a large oil filling port with a view window that allows the operator to easily add and check bar oil level, an adjustable automatic chain lubrication system with a large oil reservoir for increased user convenience, and a lateral chain tensioning system with dual studs for efficient chain retention.

XGT is a system of equipment, tools, batteries and chargers utilizing 40V max lithium-ion batteries.
