Massey Services was recognized recently by the Council for a Sustainable Florida with a “Promising Practice” certificate for its precedent-setting pest prevention platform.

The Council for a Sustainable Florida, a program of the Collins Center for Public Policy in Tallahassee, has played a significant role in Florida's economic, environmental and social future since 1990. The Council works with partners in promoting best practices to create a more sustainable Florida.

“The Best Practices Awards recognize the efforts put forth by nominees to use sustainable practices in their leadership and businesses,” says Tim Center, director for the Council for a Sustainable Florida. “Massey Services’ efforts in developing Pest Prevention as a service model point to both organizational and individual leadership by Mr. Massey in helping to shift an entire industry towards more sustainable practices. We hope their efforts are acknowledged and replicated by others and we are proud to commend them for their work in this regard.”

Massey Services pioneered the Pest Prevention platform, designed to decrease dependence on chemical pesticides to control pests in 1990.  The mission was to redirect service from a position of “controlling” pests, to a preventive approach, using environmentally responsible methodologies. By applying pesticides only when absolutely necessary, and by focusing service outside a structure, treatments become less intrusive and safer for employees and customer families.  Massey Services’ self-initiated efforts preceded both the industry and regulators, years before any such ideas or standards were ever discussed.

“We are honored to have received this recognition from the Council for a Sustainable Florida,” says Tony Massey, president and COO of Massey Services. “Taking a ‘green’ approach is at the heart of the way we do business. We work hard to incorporate business practices that are environmentally responsible and protect the health and safety of customers and our team members. We will continue to support the efforts of the Council to promote more sustainable practices.”
