The Michigan Department of Agriculture has enacted a one-year moratorium prohibiting the sale or movement of ash nursery stock from or within the state's lower peninsula.
Designed to protect the state from the emerald ash borer, the recent order went into effect Aug. 5.
The following counties were also placed under full quarantine: Genesee, Ingham, Jackson, Lapeer, Lenawee, Shiawassee and St. Clair. The pest also was discovered in small pockets of Eaton, Kent and Saginaw counties, but these are considered isolated infestations and manageable without enacting quarantines.
