N.Y. Turfgrass Association to Host Golf Tournament

The tournament will be Aug. 20 at Grossinger Country Club, in Liberty, N.Y.

The Annual Sullivan County Challenge fundraising tournament will be held Aug. 20 at Grossinger Country Club, in Liberty, N.Y.  The New York State Turfgrass Association, Grossinger Country Club, and the Hudson Valley Golf Course Superintendents Association will sponsor the tournament.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. followed by lunch and a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. After the tournament, an “open bar” cocktail reception will take place where hors d’oeuvres will be served and prizes will be awarded. The cost to register is $110, which covers all of the day’s events. 

According to Michael McNamara, Golf Course Superintendent at Grossinger Country Club and Co-chair of the Sullivan County Challenge Committee, “This is the 9th year we have hosted this successful event.  We hope to again have a good turnout this year and that people will join us to have some fun and support the turf industry.”  

The Annual Sullivan County Challenge is one of NYSTA’s most successful fundraiser tournaments with eight years of proceeds totaling $72,647.  This year’s proceeds will support NYSTA’s Turfgrass Advocacy Day; joint turfgrass lobbying efforts with the New York Alliance for Environmental Concerns; LEAD New York, a program dedicated to developing horticultural and agricultural leaders; and Cornell University newsletters that are e-mailed to members throughout the growing season including ShortCUTT which features turf research and Branching Out which focuses on trees and shrubs.  Those who sponsor the event are offered exposure through signage, announcements, and tournament publicity.    

The New York State Turfgrass Association is comprised of 1,600 green industry professionals who have joined together to share technology, promote environmental stewardship, support education, advance research and disseminate research findings.
