Nancy Sutley To Speak at Toro's WaterSmart Symposium

The “Success Without Excess II” WaterSmart Symposium will be July 19.

The Toro Co. announced that Nancy Sutley, Deputy Mayor for Energy and Environment for the city of Los Angeles, is scheduled to speak at the second annual WaterSmart Symposium on July 19 at the company’s state-of-the-art irrigation development and testing facility in Riverside, Calif.

“This year’s WaterSmart Symposium is the perfect place for all of us to come together to share ideas and success stories,” Sutley said. “I hope the event will help encourage and inspire all of us to implement more efficient water management strategies in our areas—and to do so before they are mandated. It is crucial to be proactive in adopting water-saving practices and to learn from what other leaders are doing.”

Sutley has extensive experience in environmental public policy at the federal and state levels, where she demonstrated an effective management record in complex environmental and program issues with diverse audiences.

Held in July during Smart Irrigation Month, the 2007 WaterSmart Symposium will cover timely issues related to water management and the irrigation industry. Landscape contractors, golf course superintendents, architects, specifiers, homebuilders, government officials and others with a stake in water management and the future of irrigation are encouraged to attend. Registration for the event can be completed online at www.torowatersmart.com.

“Nancy Sutley is well known for being extremely proactive in terms of lobbying for the preservation of natural resources, so we are excited to have her speak at the 2007 WaterSmart Symposium,” said Phil Burkart, vice president and general manager of Toro Irrigation.

“Nancy Sutley’s efforts and active political involvement in protecting the environment will encourage attendees to step up and do their part in saving water. With the participation of key players and public policy leaders like Sutley, together we can lead the way in promoting the efficient use of water,” said Burkart.

Sutley also served on the California State Water Resources Control Board where she oversaw the allocation and adjudication of water rights for public benefit and the protection of natural resources. As a senior-level appointee at the Cal/EPA, she advised on water and air pollution policy. In 2006, Sutley was appointed by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa to the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, a consortium of 26 cities and water districts that provide drinking water to nearly 18 million people throughout six counties in Southern California.
