DALLAS – Consolidation in the industry has found a new face with the announcement June 5 that Centex HomeTeam Lawn Care has acquired the assets of the King Green Inc. lawn, tree and shrub operations located in the greater metropolitan Atlanta, Ga., area. The transaction is the first significant acquisition for Centex HomeTeam Lawn Care, which is the lawn, tree and shrub services division of Centex HomeTeam Services. Centex HomeTeam Services was formed in 1995 as a chemical lawn care, pest control and electronic security monitoring subsidiary of Dallas-based Centex Corporation.

Centex HomeTeam Lawn Care will operate from King Green's former facilities in Doraville, Marietta and Peachtree City, Ga. Sales, service and customer care for King's nearly 15,000 Atlanta area customer accounts will be provided by more than 70 employees who are now Centex employees. The purchase price of the transaction was not disclosed.

Combining the King Green base of operations with plans for additional new sales and service personnel, Centex HomeTeam Lawn Care will focus on accelerating its growth in the Atlanta market. The acquisition will enable Centex HomeTeam Lawn Care to provide additional support to the neighborhoods of its Centex Homes' affiliate in greater Atlanta.

"We are extremely excited about entering the Atlanta market with the foundation established by King Green and the opportunity to grow our business through quality sales, quality service and a satisfaction rating of ‘best’ from our customers," said David Armitage, president of Centex HomeTeam Lawn Care.

Centex Corporation is becoming a full-service provider for property owners with its focus on building, financing, construction and property care. Through its other subsidiaries, Centex Corporation operates as a home builder, non-bank affiliated retail mortgage lender and general building contractor. Centex also has operations in investment real estate and owns approximately 65 percent of a publicly held construction products company.
