Syngenta's Medallion Protectant Fungicide Now Labeled For Use On Landscape Ornamentals
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Syngenta Professional Products’ Medallion (fludioxonil) fungicide has been used for several years in greenhouses. The company announced July 25 that it is now available for use in outdoor nurseries and on landscape ornamentals.
Syngenta Professional Products recently received a new label from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for control of certain foliar, root and stem diseases in azaleas, begonias, gerbera daisies, roses and more than 40 other container grown and landscaping plants. The plants covered can be grown in interiorscapes, field nursery plantings, forest nurseries, residential and commercial landscapes, greenhouse containers and other enclosed structures.
"Medallion has been relied upon by greenhouse growers for the past four years," explained Chuck Buffington, Syngenta Professional Products ornamental market manager. "Now outdoor nursery growers and managers of landscape ornamentals can have the same level of performance against foliar, stem and root-rot diseases regardless of where they grow their plants."
Medallion can be applied in a variety of ways depending upon the growing method. It can be applied as a drench, mixed with the potting media or tank-mixed with Subdue MAXX® to control stem and root-rot diseases. For foliar diseases, it is best applied as a full-coverage spray on a regular schedule, according to the company.
The list of diseases controlled by Medallion includes some of the most common faced by growers and managers of landscape ornamentals, including Botrytis Blight, Aerial Blight, Alternaria Leaf Blight, Cercospora Leaf Spot, Myrothecium Leaf Spot and Blight, Septoria Leaf Spot, Cylindrocladium, Stem and Root Rot, Rhizoctonia Stem and Root Rot, Southern Blight and Black Root Rot.
"Medallion is a very versatile product," Buffington said. "In addition to full-grown plants, it can be used to protect seeding crops, transplants and cuttings against root and stem diseases."
Chipco's Finale Granted State Label By California DPR
MONTVALE, N.J. - Finale herbicide, produced by the Chipco Professionals Products group of Aventis Environmental Science, recently was granted a state label for use on turf by the California Department of Pesticide Regulations.
A non-selective postemergent herbicide, Finale provides control of a broad spectrum of annual and perennial grasses and broadleaf weeds, including poison ivy, dandelion, dollarweed, thistle and white clover.
Finale’s formulation and mode of action allows it to be absorbed rapidly through green tissue to control target plants in as few as one to four days, according to the company. Its mode of action is both contact and systemic, resulting in rapid and long-lasting control of undesirable weeds and grasses. Chipco also said Finale works well in cooler temperatures, providing a control in cooler spring and fall climates.
Finale is rainfast in an average of four hours, said Chipco, and once applied it stays put, allowing lawn care operators to clear weeds along paths and driveways in straight without any "creep."
"Californians will benefit from Finale’s broad spectrum of control and quick knockdown of weeds and grasses," commented George Raymond, business manager - herbicides, Chipco Professional Products.
