ELMIRA, N.Y. – Summer is a time when many of us work hard to make our lawns look picture perfect. But others call landscapers like Rick Turner to do the work for them. He's a trained organic lawn care provider.
“People are getting more and more into going green. They don't like pesticides. Pesticides are an unnecessary evil, but there are ways you can minimize the use of them,” says Rick Turner, R & R Landscaping.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will soon be offering "Be Green Organic Yard Care" trainings to license lawn care providers. The trainings include proper planting, mulching, and pruning methods in an effort to use less chemical fertilizers.
“Different people have different sensitivities. Pets of course have different sensitivities to chemicals that are in pesticides and fertilizers. They can range from skin irritations to cancer causing agents,” says Scott Foti, Department of Environmental Conservation.
