It’s time again for the Turf & Ornamental Communicators Association (TOCA) to begin its search for the next Environmental Communicator of the Year. Nominations for the 2006 winner are now being accepted. The award, which is sponsored by Advan, may be given to anyone in the green industry. It is presented each year at TOCA's annual meeting and will be awarded in May 2006 for the eighth time in Napa, Calif.
Last year's winner was Jeff Gullikson of Spokane Country Club. Nominees for the 2006 award must be current TOCA members or be nominated by a current member. The winner receives a $500 cash stipend. All applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2006.
If you're interested in obtaining an application or receiving further information on the award, contact Den Gardner or Liz Selvig at TOCA at 952/758-6340 or by e-mail at tocaassociation@aol.com. You can also find application forms on the TOCA Web site, www.toca.org.
TOCA also recently welcomed several new members:
Jessica Sharp, Tierney Communications
Polly Moter, consulting with the International Lawn, Garden & Power Equipment Expo
Sarah Willis, Landscape Ontario
Jan Zverina and Jeff Carowitz, Hunter Industries
James McLoughlin, columnist for Golf Course News.
Now with 220 members, TOCA reached its goal of bringing on 50 new members in two years. Currently, the organization is targeting its membership efforts toward the greenhouse/nursery and equipment sectors. Existing TOCA members or individuals that are interested in membership are encouraged to contact the association for more information. Additionally, TOCA will be hosting a complementary Membership Breakfast at the Green Industry Expo in Orlando, Firday, Nov. 4 from 7 to 8:30 a.m. Sponsored by Dow AgroSciences, this is a chance for potential or incoming members to meet existing members and see, first-hand, the value of members. The breakfast also will be held at the Golf Course Industry Show in Atlanta in 2006.
