The Horticultural Research Institute (HRI), the research affiliate of the American Nursery & Landscape Association (ANLA), announced the establishment of the Home Nursery—Chuck & Jean Tosovsky Family Fund. Charles Tosovsky of Home Nursery, Edwardsville, Ill., announced his donation of $50,000 to HRI during the winter reception in Chicago.
Home Nursery is an award winning leader in producing field and container grown nursery stock and roses. Founded in 1921, it continues to be a family owned and operated business. Home Nursery services a 12-state territory and maintains two full service distribution centers in Albers and O’Fallon, Missouri.
“I started the Chuck and Jean Tosovsky Family fund for HRI because the nursery business has been my entire life and I feel it is important to perpetuate the industry for future generations," Chuck Tosovsky says. "HRI funds projects for all aspects of the horticulture industry, not just certain segments. HRI ensures that projects are not duplicated and that funds are used for projects that will improve the industry.”
Founded in 1962, HRI has directed more than $5.3 million of industry funds to some 620 research projects covering the full range of production, environmental and business issues important to the green industry. HRI distributed $425,000 in grants and scholarships for 2008. The HRI Endowment Fund is the primary source of project funding. Created in 1975 as HRI’s philanthropic arm, the Endowment Fund now stands more than $11 million committed by nearly 170 individuals, associations and corporations. The Endowment Fund’s principal remains invested and untouched; only investment earnings fund HRI grants.
