Ohio Turfgrass Foundation Announces Golf Scramble

Annual scholarship and research fundraiser will be held October 2, 2003

Clean off your spikes and start working on your swing - the Ohio Turfgrass Foundation (OTF) is gearing up for it’s annual Golf Scramble and invites green industry professionals from all over the country to attend.

“This is a great event for company owners to bring their employees to as an end-of-season reward,” said Kevin Thompson, executive director. “We really encourage green industry professionals to come out and enjoy the event while raising money for turfgrass research and industry-related scholarships.”

This year’s event will be held at the Players Club course at Foxfire Golf Club about 15 miles south of Columbus, Ohio. Featuring bentgrass, tree-lined fairways; large mounds and the longest sand bunker in the Midwest, Golf Course Superintendent Curt Geron plans to have the course in premiere condition for the event. At 7100 yards with a slope rating of 132 from the blue tees and a mix of American and British links-style designs, the Players Club will challenge golfers at all skill levels.

The 2002 tournament, held at the City of Blue Ash in Cincinnati generated over $10,000 for the OTF Scholarship and Research fund.

Next to the Ohio Turfgrass Conference and Trade Show, the golf tournament generates the most revenue for OTF. Lawn care companies, sod producers, athletic field managers, grounds manangers and golf course superintendents and their staffs are encouraged to participate and support OTF’s mission of funding turfgrass research and education.

“We urge everyone to register as either an individual or in a team,” Thompson said. “It’s a great way to thank customers or build staff loyalty by rewarding employees for their hard work while supporting OTF.”

The cost to play in the tournament is $125 for an individual or $500 for a foursome. Event sponsors also offer huge contributions to the tournament’s success. Tee sponsorships are available for $160 and meal or beverage cart sponsorships are $500. Participants and sponsors must register by Sept. 25, 2003. Visit the OTF’s Calendar of Events Web page for a downloadable registration form in PDF format, or call OTF at 888/683-3445 for more details.
