The Ohio Lawn Care Association (OLCA) held its annual meeting and breakfast in conjunction with the Ohio Turfgrass Conference & Show in Columbus, Ohio, last week.
Meeting highlights included presentations of scholarships and other awards. OLCA President Jeff Bisker, Your Lawn, Ashville, Ohio, presented Dr. Susan Everett of Clark State Community College with a $2,000 grant. Bisker also presented $1,000 scholarships to three students pursing careers in the lawn care industry. Recipients included Mitchell Valerio, Aaron Coontz and Laura Jones.
During special presentations, Bisker recognized OLCA’s immediate past president Dennis Imler, Lawn Doctor of Arlington/Hilliard/Dublin, Columbus, Ohio, for his years of dedicated service to the association.
Members also received an update on legislative issues. In 2005, Ohio’s pre-emption law regarding fertilizer was successfully revised to not only include the application of fertilizer, but also the registration, packaging, labeling, sale, storage, distribution and use. The clarification makes Ohio law uniform to the Model Fertilizer Regulation Law adopted by the Association of American Plant Food Control Officials. Attendees were also encouraged to participate in OLCA’s next Legislative Day, scheduled for Feb. 15, 2006, in Columbus.
