Industries are often inspired by their own benchmarks, striving to reach loftier goals every year. Indeed, green industry in the Buckeye state is no different, and an Ohio Nursery & Landscape Association (ONLA) survey has the proof.
According to the ONLA’s “Green & Growing” survey, sales revenue for the Ohio nursery and landscape industry grew 42.3 percent between 1996 and 2001 from $1,959,598,000 to $2,787,168,000 – that’s billions of dollars. These figures represent the combined revenue of the state’s wholesale producers, landscape construction/installation firms, garden centers, landscape maintenance companies, retail garden centers, mail order firms and other services.
Additionally, the scope of the industry survey, conducted in January and February 2002 and based on 2001 numbers, boasts that the Ohio green industry employs more than 96,000 workers – up almost 6,000 positions since 1996.
Complete results of the statewide survey are available on the ONLA Web site at http://www.onla.org/02industryreport.html.
