OTF to Hold 2nd Annual Ohio State Golf Turf Spring Tee-Off

The event, to be held in Columbus, Ohio March 2 through 4, will be cosponsored by the Ohio Turfgrass Foundation, the Ohio State University and the OSU extension.

2nd Annual Ohio State Golf Turf Spring Tee-off
Set for March 2-4

The Ohio Turfgrass Foundation (OTF), The Ohio State University (OSU) Turfgrass Science Program, and OSU Extension will once again sponsor this year’s golf course maintenance short course after its successful launch in February 2004. A golf turfgrass management short course was offered by the Ohio State University in the past, but in 2004, management duties of the event became the responsibility of OTF, which renamed the event the Ohio State Golf Turf Spring Tee-Off.

The format of the conference and educational sessions will provide take-home messages and practical management for golf turf managers. A primary goal of the event is to strengthen the ongoing relationship between OSU students majoring in turfgrass science, alumni of the OSU turfgrass program and OTF members, while offering golf course maintenance professionals the opportunity to continue their education through earning GCSAA (Golf Course Superintendents Association of America) and pesticide applicator recertification credits.

The Spring Tee-Off will be held March 2 through 4 in Columbus, Ohio at the Holiday Inn on the Lane. The 2 ½-day program will offer networking opportunities for golf turf managers, OSU students, and the OSU turfgrass science team, and will include the following educational sessions:

  • Management of Golf Turf in Shade
  • Golf Insect Update and New insecticides for 2005
  • Putting Green Hydrology: Another View
  • Annual Bluegrass Control
  • Dollar Spot Management, Timing of Applications Studies
  • Turfgrass Fertilization
  • Organic Matter Accumulation in Sand Putting Greens
  • USGA Year in Preview
  • Myths & Mysteries of the History of Golf
  • Superintendent Roundtable discussion
  • State of the Economy in Golf
  • PGR Superintendent’s Panel
  • Golf Course Design and Construction
  • And more!

OTF will host an evening industry reception on Wednesday, March 2 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn. Additionally, a job fair on Thursday, March 3 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. will offer students and employment-seekers a chance to meet with golf courses and suppliers to discuss internships and job opportunities. The OSU/GCSAA Student Turf Club will hold its annual luncheon on Thursday, March 3 from noon to 1 p.m.
