Kansas City, Mo. – PBI/Gordon Corp. has recently announced the addition of former GCSAA president Dave Fearis to their team of territory sales representatives. Fearis, who has been working for the company for several years in a product management and golf market consulting position, will now be responsible for sales in the state of Iowa.

“Our recent growth has created many management challenges, both internally and in the field,” says Mark Miller, vice president of sales for the PBI Gordon’s proffessional and agricultural product group. “Adding these sales responsibilities to Dave’s duties at PBI/Gordon means sacrificing his time in other areas, but Iowa has always been a key state for us and Dave’s experience with the golf market and with our products made this change one we had to consider.”

Prior to his career as golf course superintendent, Fearis had worked in a sales position in the professional turf and ornamental industry. A “people person,” Fearis says he’s happy to be back in the field. “I enjoy being out and moving around,” he says. “Meeting new people and sharing experiences is more rewarding to me than working at a desk.”

Fearis continues to be the company’s golf market specialist, trading only his product management responsibilities for field sales responsibilities. “Dave’s expertise and understanding of the cultural methods and product needs of the golf course superintendent is a huge asset,” explains Miller. “Not only is he knowledgeable, he loves the business and it shows.”

PBI Gordon also announced the addition of John Spaulding to the staff of the professional products group. Spaulding will be taking on the duties of a recently added product management position.

“The management challenges associated with our current growth have created additional product management needs,” Miller says. “John’s extensive background in our industry is a definite asset as we continue to grow and add new products to our line. We are pleased to have him on board to pick up these additional responsibilities.”

Spaulding has 16 years of sales and marketing experience in the consumer and professional turf and ornamental markets, as well as the pest management market. He joined PBI Gordon in 2003, bringing with him industry experience gained at Bayer Corp. and Monsanto. For the past two years, Spaulding has been involved in product management for the PBI Gordon consumer products group.

“I'm excited to be joining the professional products group of PBI Gordon,” Spaulding said. “PBI Gordon has a long tradition of providing new technologies to the turf and ornamental market and I look forward to providing leadership as we enter new markets.”
